The Multifaceted Nature of Reading Acquisition: Unraveling the Reading Rope

Tuesday, January 15, 2019 | 6:30 – 7:30 pm ET

Description: Hollis Scarborough’s Reading Rope provides a powerful illustration of the multiple strands of proficient reading. The rope model unravels the critical skills of word recognition and language comprehension. It directly informs our understanding of why some students succeed and some struggle and provides necessary direction for effective instruction. This session will define the strands of the rope, examine individual contributions and necessary interactions, and further develop an understanding of how skilled reading develops.

Scholarship Information, Thanks to Dyslexic Advantage!

The Dyslexic Advantage Karina Eide Memorial Scholarship Program will award scholarships of $2500 to SIXTEEN dyslexic students who are currently enrolled in college, university, or vocational school in the US. This is not an award for graduate students (sorry). High school students taking college classes are also not yet eligible to apply. Applicants must be currently enrolled in a 2 or 4-year college, university, or vocational / technical school.

The purpose of these awards is to identify and support the development of dyslexic students with strong character and outstanding future potential who may not be competitive for other scholarships that are based on grades or test scores. Scholarship funds are to be used to pay tuition or other school-related expenses.

All applicants must have successfully completed at least one academic term in their current school by March 1, 2019, and must demonstrate financial need – by qualifying for a loan or scholarship in FAFSA. https://app.wizehive.com/appform/login/dyslexicadvantagescholarship19
